LUNG DESEASE

Introduction: Lungs are the most vital organs of our body that helps us to breathe. Lungs are believed to provide the vast area for oxygen from the air to passing into the blood stream and carbon dioxide to moving out. Our body cells require oxygen for functioning and developing properly and simultaneously get rid of carbon dioxide. The normal healthy person, on an average breathes-in or inhales oxygen from the air roughly for about 25,000 times every day. The air we inhale contains oxygen and nitrogen and besides that it also has some bacteria, viruses, tobacco smoke, car exhaust, and other pollutants that may damage the lungs. The lung desease patients may have breathing problem due to which their lungs get less oxygen that required.

Types of Lung Disease: There are many types of lung diseases, some of them are most usually found such as: asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease-COPD, cystic fibrosis, emphysema, lung cancer, mesothelioma, tuberculosis, pulmonary emboli and pulmonary hypertension, and influenza.

Causes: There are several known causes of this disease and yet the causes of many more are not known too. The causes of the known diseases may include:
• Smoking: Cigarette or cigar or pipe smoking is the most responsible causee
• Radon gas: This is considered as the next greater cause of the lung disease
• Asbestos: This natural fiber easily floats in the air and enters our body through nose
• Air-pollution: There are many air pollutants in the atmosphere which can easily damage the lungs in different ways.

Symptoms: The preliminary symptoms of lung desease could easily be overlooked as the person simply experiences lesser energy levels. Some of the most commonly found symptoms of lung disease may include: Trouble breathing, Shortness of breath, Feeling like getting insufficient air, Unable to perform exercises easily, Persistent coughing, Coughing up blood or mucus and Pain or discomfort while inhaling or exhaling

Diagnosis: Lung deseases are usually diagnosed by various means according to their type, intensities, family history, individual patient’s medical history, and health and age condition of the patient. Certain diagnostic laboratory testing for lung disease may include all or any of the following depending on the patient’s conditions: Pulmonary function test, Chest X-rays, CAT scan, Bronchoscopy and Pulse oximetry.

Treatment: The treatment for lung disease depends on various factors like type and phase of the desease, family history, patient’s medical history and health and age of the patient. However, the common treatment includes: inhalers, expectorants, antibiotics, oxygen therapy, chemotherapy, lung transplantation, and lung reduction surgery, natural and complimentary or integrative therapies.
